Most of the sites we have listed offer some form of free resume templates. These are basic resumes and CV templates that are designed to be used for creating a generic profile for the applicant and to be stored online.

However, these shouldn't be used for forwarding to companies.

Creating your own resume template is actually very simple, and here is some useful advice to take you through the stages.

Basic Rules

Preferred Resume / CV length

  • Australian format: 2 - 4 pages
  • UK format: 2 pages
  • US format: 1 - 2 pages

Subject headings

  • Name & personal details (include contact numbers)
  • Professional and academic qualifications & courses
  • Key skills & your Profile (optional)
  • Employment history (starting with most recent position)
  • Job description (usually around 5 - 15 bullet points)
  • Other supporting documentation

Things to remember

  1. You do not need to put your age
  2. Make sure you list some form of achievements
  3. Write your resume with a sense of "adding value"
  4. Keep the content relevant
  5. Don't try and write everything that you have ever done
  6. Remember quality is king
